The Housing Choice Voucher Program was created under Section 8 of the 1974 federal
Housing and Community Development Act. Under this program, the housing authority
provides subsidies to local landlords on behalf of low-income families and individuals
living in privately owned housing in the City of Leesville.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is very popular with tenants because they
can utilize it to find their own residence and live in the neighborhood of their
choice. Many take advantage of the program's portability to transfer to other
  parts of the country.
This program assists eligible families in finding safe, decent, and affordable
housing. The housing authority makes housing payments directly to the landlords.
The housing authority is responsible for collecting income verifications and
calculating the tenant's portion of the subsidy. The family may pay 30% to 40%
of their household income for rent.

This program is based on Federal Income Guidelines.
